A: You uterus is ever-growing now, especially as you get further along in your pregnancy. That once small 'fist-like' muscle that use to sit right under and slightly behind your pelvic bone, begins to climb upwards now. Any organ that is in it's way, (the intestines, stomach, liver, gallbladder), begin to get pushed together and upwards too. Digestion is not an easy task anymore, when things are all bunched up. Food may seem like it sits in your stomach, constipation may occur, acid reflux, belching, and irritability. All this can make you miserable in deed!
On your next visit, be sure and mention these things to your physician. In the meantime, you can try these ideas below. It just might help an unsettled tummy by doing the following:
1.) Eat smaller meals, spaced out
2.) Avoid heavily greased foods and overly spiced dishes
3.) Eat plenty of whole grain, high fiber foods
4.) Avoid gassy foods
5.) Do not eat lying down, or immediately after a heavy meal
6.) Try lying on your left side, to aid in the flow of things
7.) Drink plenty of water, (try the Calming Waters recipe below)
8.) Exercise, take a nice brisk walk after meals
Recipe for Calming Waters:
2 liters of water
juice of 1 medium sized lemon
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger root
a few mint leaves
Mix ingredients in the water, stir.
Pour a glass and garnish with a slice of lemon.
*Prepare some the night before, fill portable drink container and take along with you.*
